This sculpture was created for my client Lucas, an extraordinary person who’s faced the darkness of depression and found the courage to rise above it. Through moments of pain and doubt, he discovered the strength to keep going — to reach for light, hope, and connection. This piece honors that journey and the quiet bravery it takes to keep choosing life, one day at a time. 💛

🖤 Heel — part of my Echo series — created during my 2023 artist residency at Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum.

This piece, cast in iron with a fabricated steel base, emerged from a moment I’ll never forget: when my first echocardiogram was taken in the hospital in 2022. Seeing my heart on that screen — and learning there was fluid in my pericardium — was terrifying. It was a moment of complete vulnerability, of realizing just how sick I had become, and how far outside my control it all felt.

Heel captures the turning point between collapse and recovery. It is a form shaped by both fear and determination — part of a larger process of using sculpture to examine the internal, to pull the sickness out where I could see it, study it, and begin to heal.

Thank you to Sculpture Trails for the space and support to make this work during such a pivotal chapter in my life.

I’m honored to share that my sculpture 'Still Standing' (cast iron, bronze, satin) will be part of the Open Theme Annual Exhibition at Webster Arts.

Created while recovering from a life-threatening condition, this piece is about being seen—about the strength it takes to rise, to heal, and to embrace beauty in imperfection. With the support of my mentor and in collaboration with Teresa Lind, I began reclaiming my body, and Still Standing is the result: a reflection of resilience shaped through vulnerability.
